Water,
Birch Bay Water & Sewer District (BBWSD) provides reliable drinking water services to the Birch Bay area in northwest Whatcom County, serving approximately 7,700 customer connections. The District’s water supply is obtained from groundwater sources operated by the City of Blaine under a long-term supply agreement, ensuring a dependable and regulated source of potable water for the community.
BBWSD is responsible for the storage, distribution, and delivery of drinking water through an extensive system that includes three water reservoirs, booster pump stations, and roughly 70 miles of water mains. The District designs, operates, maintains, and repairs this infrastructure to meet daily demand, fire protection needs, and future growth within the service area.
In addition, BBWSD actively oversees water quality monitoring and regulatory compliance. Drinking water is treated and disinfected by the City of Blaine and then routinely tested in accordance with state and federal Safe Drinking Water Act standards. BBWSD conducts system-wide sampling and publishes annual water quality (Consumer Confidence) reports to ensure transparency and public health protection.
