FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FY 2020 Water and Sewer Budget Approved by District Commissioners
During a regularly scheduled meeting on 12/12/19, the Birch Bay Water & Sewer Commissioners voted to approve the proposed fiscal year 2020 budget. The Commissioners approved the $5,753,164 budget which includes an operating expense budget of $3,707,759, capital projects of $1,505,811 and scheduled debt payments of $539,594.
Some of the planned major capital projects include:
Continue the service area water meter upgrade project to install automated water meters that will allow District Water Department staff to more efficiently read meters and alert customers to leaks.
Update analysis of water reservoirs and how they would react in a seismic event. This will help the District Engineers plan for seismic upgrades.
Complete the Wastewater Treatment Plant ultraviolet disinfection system upgrade project. This project will meet new Department of Ecology discharge permit requirements.
Dan Eisses, General Manager of the District said “the District employs fourteen staff and continues to meet or exceed all regulatory water and sewer compliance. The Commissioners and staff are what make this District run efficiently.”
The rate increase for 2020 was approved by the Commissioners at 3.48%. The basic portion of the residential water and sewer bi-monthly bill will increase from $73.70 to $76.30.
